Toyota Tacoma Family
As a best-selling mid-size pickup for 10 straight years since its introduction a decade ago, the 2nd generation Toyota Tacoma finally had it successor when Toyota officially unveiled the all-new 3rd generation Tacoma at the 2015 North American International Auto Show.
Rebuilt inside and out with new engine, transmissions and suspension tuning, the 2016 Tacoma will be available with two engines, a 2.7-L 4-Cyl engine and an all-new 3.5-L Atkinson cycle V6 engine. Both engines will be paired to a new 6-speed AT. The V6 can also be mated to a new 6-speed MT. Toyota said “the new powertrain makes the Tacoma more powerful and fuel efficient than ever before.”
On the styling front, besides sharing the chiseled face with a hex grille, the Tacoma shows its identifiable character. “Inspired by desert racing”, the 3rd generation Tacoma features new muscular wheel flares, bold upper grille and a taller, more muscular hood. The tailgate with slowly-retract capability has an integrated spoiler for better aerodynamics.
On the inside, the 2016 Tacoma features “handlebar” design theme in the instrument panel for a more driver-focused experience. The new Toyota Tacoma’s cabin was added with multi-layer acoustic windshield and sound-absorbing headliners. Together with enhanced seals and added floor silencer pad, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma is the quietest Tacoma ever.
Designed and built in North America, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma will be available in 5 grades –SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and Limited. Toyota, for the first time ever, will have a tri-fold hard tonneau cover available for the 2016 Tacoma.
